In its meeting today, Tuesday, in the interim capital, Aden, chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Dr. Shaya'a Al-Zindani, the Cabinet approved a package of economic, financial, and administrative decisions, most notably the liberalization of the customs dollar rate and the adoption of strict monitoring measures to prevent any negative impact on the prices of basic commodities.
The Cabinet affirmed that the decision to liberalize the customs dollar rate comes within the framework of continuing economic reforms and implementing Presidential Leadership Council Resolution No. (11) of 2025, as part of a government vision aimed at unifying revenue streams, addressing price distortions, and enhancing the efficiency of public revenue collection.
The Cabinet stressed that the decision will not affect basic commodities exempt from customs duties and will not impose additional burdens on citizens, clarifying that its application will be primarily limited to luxury and non-essential goods. The Cabinet directed ministries, relevant authorities, and local governments to intensify field monitoring campaigns to prevent any exploitation of the decision to impose unjustified price increases, emphasizing the need for uniform implementation procedures across all outlets and prohibiting any exceptions outside the legal framework.
The Cabinet tasked the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in coordination with the Chamber of Commerce and other relevant bodies, with conducting extensive monitoring campaigns to control prices, prevent monopolies and price gouging, and prepare and publish periodic price guides for essential commodities. It also directed the Ministries of Defense and Interior, along with security agencies, to tighten control over ports and markets and combat smuggling.
