The Director General of the Office of the Ministry of Public Works and Roads in Hadhramaut Coast, Acting Director General of the Directorate of Mukalla City, Engineer Saleh Al-Omari, said that the project comes in implementation of the directives of the Governor of Hadhramaut, Mr. Mabkhout Mubarak bin Madi, to light public streets with solar-powered lighting poles, as more than 250 solar-powered lighting devices have been installed since the beginning of this year 2025 AD, and with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan. Al-Omari explained that the rest of the streets around the creek and the eastern entrance to the city will be completed by installing solar-powered light points along the main street in Mukalla from Al-Dala roundabout in the Martyr Khaled neighborhood to the Shibam roundabout, and around Mukalla creek and the eastern and western entrances to the city.

Advanced solar panels were used to operate street lighting throughout the night, with storage batteries that operate during cloudy days, in order to rationalize expenses by providing electricity with traditional systems.

The project, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Public Works and Roads Office to improve public services, comes by enhancing the lighting of vital areas and main squares, which positively reflects on traffic and safety at night.
Some intersections in the Hadrami capital were also equipped with traffic signals that operate on alternative energy to regulate traffic and overcome the electricity crisis.
The project highlights the role of technological solutions in addressing energy challenges, and shows the importance of renewable energy as a pillar of development in difficult and exceptional circumstances.
